Shipwrecks of the Manitou Passage

Our current exhibit, Shipwrecks of the Manitou Passage, Loss and Legacy, highlights the history of Leelanau County. The Society's new exhibit brings the stories of several major shipwrecks to life and links the events and circumstances that surround them to modern times. Viewers go beneath the waves to see the work of divers and archeaologists, and to share in many of the secrets of the past. The exhibit includes photography, displays, artifacts and two video presentations: When Weather Makes History by TV 9&10, Dave Barrons and Erik Saxon and a stunning underwater video documenting newly discovered shipwreck in the Passage by Thaddius Bedford of the Manitou Passage Underwater Preserve. Also supported by Jed Jaworski of the Michigan Maritime Museum.

The Leelanau Historical Society Museum is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. Admission is free, donations always appreciated.
