A Message from the President
Written by Logan Hardie, President, Leelanau Historical Society
There comes a time when all good organizations must toot their own horn. That time is now. The LHS has raised in grants and matching individual funds, almost $50,000 in the last year. This money has come from three grants from the Ball Foundation, the Wheeler Family, and the Viskochil Family. These funds are for specific functions or facility improvements. In addition, there has been a tremendous outpouring of support for the acquisition of the Erhardt Peters photographic collection. This fund has provided not only from the purchase of the collection, it also can be used to care for this and other photographic collections. Most recently we have been graced with the generous financial support for the For the Land's Sake exhibit and catalog.
We are proud and we should be. All of this funding helps us to present outstanding programs to you, our membership. We must add a word of caution to all of this, however. We must continue to add to our membership roster. Operating the Museum and maintaining top rate employees requires the money from this vital aspect of our total income picture.
We have an outstanding Board of Trustees. We are blessed with a dynamic Director and superb Curator. Our Staff Administrator and our Store Manager are second to none. Bring your families and friends to the Museum this summer. See what the school children in the County did during the winter under the guidance of our Director. We are first class and that is due to our volunteers, our members, our staff and our Trustees. I thank all of you.
Logan Hardie
