Exhibits at the Leelanau Historical Museum tell the story of the settlement and development of the Leelanau Peninsula from the time of the first wooding station on South Manitou Island. Displays feature domestic arts such as cooking, spinning and sewing and agriculture, and shoe making tools. Every year a special exhibit features fine, folk, traditional arts or a specific aspect of County history.

For the Land's Sake
The Leelanau Historical Museum will host “For the Land’s Sake—The Leelanau Suite Revisited: Landscape Paintings by Stephen Duren” from May 29 through August 1, 2004. The Museum, located at 203 East Cedar Street in Leland, Michigan, will be open from 10 am to 4 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays. Admission is $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for students. Leelanau Portraits
Artist Fred Petroskey's "Leelanau Portraits" is the featured exhibit at the newly renovated Leelanau Historical Museum beginning Saturday, June 28, 2003. The Petroskey Exhibit, the premier exhibit in the Museum's Francis Potter Breitner Gallery, celebrates the work of an artist with deep roots in Leelanau County. The forty portraits are all of Leelanau County Residents, past and present. Several have been selected from the artist's private collection and will be viewed for the first time. Others are on loan from personal collections. Together the forty paintings create a vibrant album of faces reflecting the artist's home community. June 28 - August 31, 2003
Exhibit 2002: Hands on the Land
Our 2002 Exhibit is a three part exhibit, providing a history of how Leelanau County residents have altered the landscape, a look at the past, present and future of eleven cultural sites in the county and Designs for the Future from county high school students. June - October 26, 2002
Yesterday's Tomorrows
Yesterday's Tomorrows: Past Visions of the American Future offers a unique history of popular expectations and beliefs about the shape of things to come. Manifestations of popular culture such as toys, books, movie stills, World's Fair memorabilia, car designs, advertisements, and architectural designs examine ways that Americans of yesteryear have envisioned our collective future. This is an adaptation of an exhibition originally produced in cooperation with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. November 4, 2001 - January 2002
