Orin Fredrickson's family homesteaded in the Northport area. Orin's boyhood was busy attending school at the bight and later in Northport. He helped out on the farm and worked at the Northport Point golf course. When World War II broke out, Orin and his bride Jeanne moved to the Detroit area. They went for both patriotic and economic reasons.
We had a little coupe and we packed it full of everything we might need. We left town with maybe $50. I went to work on a ship building job in Trenton. We lived in a trailer for three years. We were so homesick. Jeanne's mother sent us a live Christmas tree so we wouldn't feel so alone. We grew up quite a bit in those years. We thought more seriously about life. We learned how to get along.
