I had 24 four students the first year which was quite a group for somebody coming out of Normal [teachers college]. But I did get along real well and I remember... [the school director] just told me to...have some discipline. At that point if you really needed to reprimand somebody, you could.
We were lucky to get a job at that time...things weren't very good. The second year [I taught] I had 42 [students]... In the Depression years many people lost their jobs...and came back home...to start again.
