Community involvement and local talent and expertise have been critical to developing the programs for Yesterday's Tomorrows. Resources and contributors include:
Leelanau Communications, Inc. developed the YT web site. They specialize in Internet design and consulting for nonprofit and business clients and produce Leelanau.com, the Leelanau County Internet Guide.
The Leelanau County Photography Cooperative took the photos for Leelanau Scapes, a series of "then and now and tomorrow" studies of locations in Leelanau County for the YT exhibit.
Mark Howell joined the faculty of Northwestern Michigan College in the summer of 1997. A cultural historian with degrees from Penn State University and Bowling Green State University, Dr. Howell is recognized internationally as a specialist in automobile history, Twentieth Century American history and literature, and popular culture. Howell's most recent book, From Moonshine to Madison Avenue: A Cultural History of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, has received national attention and is widely considered to be the first scholarly study of stock car racing.
Garyn Roberts is the chair of the Communications/English Academic Area at Northwestern Michigan College, where he has been teaching since 1994. He received his doctorate in American Culture from Bowling Green State University in 1986. Robert's most recent book is The Prentice Hall Anthology of Science Fiction and Fantasy (2001). Each spring, he teaches a course in Fantasy and Science Fiction at NMC.
Mark Smith teaches a course at Northwestern Michigan College entitled "Film as Literature," which explores film as an artifact of contemporary society, and which will be offered online in the Spring semester. A graduate of Edinburgh University and the University of Michigan, Mark is a full time teacher of English at Leland Public School, and is the webmaster for Beechnut Review (www.traverse.com/beechnut), an online literary magazine for staff and students. He is also a regular contributor to the Northern Michigan Journal (www.leelanau.com/nmj/.)
